How To Add Facebook Like Button To Your Website

Connect with Websites How To Add Facebook Like Button To Your Website

When I logged into Facebook this morning, I was greeted with the picture to the left. I am sure that many of you have already seen this. I am also sure that many started out the same way I did; looking for the path to add the ‘like’ button to your website. With that said, I decided to write a post explaining how to install this little tool to your website.

Like Button How To Add Facebook Like Button To Your WebsiteBefore I begin, I thought I would share what this button can and will do for you. If you look to the right, you will see this button in action on our real estate network. As you can see at this point (originally published 4-22-2010), not many have used it. Over time, the number will grow and people will be able to share our network with their facebook friends a lot easier. All one needs to do is to click the ‘Like’ button once, and it adds them. Below is an excerpt from the facebook page explaining this a little better:

The Like button enables users to make connections to your pages and share content back to their friends on Facebook with one click. Since the content is hosted by Facebook, the button can display personalized content whether or not the user has logged into your site. For logged-in Facebook users, the button is personalized to highlight friends who have also liked the page.

Like generator How To Add Facebook Like Button To Your WebsiteNow that we have that out of the way, let’s take a look at how we add this neat little tool to our own websites. If you look to the immediate left, you will see the picture of the Like Button Generator. As you can see, I have filled out the necessary fields to create this button for Positive Real Estate Professionals’ main page. Now, in theory, I could do this for each and every page that I wanted to on PREP, but at some point, you run into overkill.

Once all the pertinent information is entered, all you need to do is click on ‘get code’. When that is done, it will generate 2 codes; the first is an iFrame code and the second is a JavaScript code. Once you have selected which code you want to use, all you need to do is add this as a ‘Text’ or ‘HTML’ widget in sidebar of your website. If you do not have access to do that, then contact your webmaster and they can instruct you more on this subject. In some cases this can require coding added to the theme itself or some adjustments to certain parameters that can only be done by an admin or webmaster.

OK, now that we have the why and how to out of the way, let’s get down to the where. I thought long and hard about how I could help you get this tool on your site in the easiest way. I decided that I would add the direct link to the Facebook Developers social media ‘Like Button’ plugin page; http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like I hope that you find this post useful.

Focusing on Local SEO

In today’s search engine optimization, we as website owners or bloggers need to make sure that we are focusing on local seo. With that said, you would not believe the amount of times that I hold a conversation with site owners and bloggers reiterating this very fact. However, most people do not understand that there is a difference in local seo versus seo. All in all is really is nothing more than focusing on your local neighborhood, subdivision, city, town, community, state, etc…. It ultimately breaks down to what you consider local.

When you think of local seo, you really only have to think of local internet marketing. This is basically the jest of local seo. If you were wanting to come up in a search for Knoxville sporting goods for example, you would not focus your seo on just sporting goods. You would want to market toward Knoxville. In many cases, bloggers and other site owners lose site of this and attempt to do their internet marketing on a higher scale.

In closing, remember that local seo and local internet marketing go hand in hand. Focus on the area where you want to derive your business from and the rest will follow.

Using The Schedule Function in WordPress For Posts

Over my 2 plus years of blogging, I have used many platforms. I have to say that WordPress has to be one of my favorites simply because of it’s ability to allow an author to write posts and then schedule them out to be posted at a later date. In this tutorial we will discuss how to do just that. Accomplishing this is much easier than you might think. I have added a couple of pictures to help you with your learning.

Schedule 1 Using The Schedule Function in WordPress For PostsIn the first picture to the left, you will see two arrows. The first arrow is red and it is pointing to the section that says ‘Publish Immediately’. To the right of that verbiage will be a section that says ‘Edit’. Click on it and it will open up an option to pick the date and time. Our second arrow, the green one, points to this section. Once you chose the date and time, simply click ‘OK’. Now our first step is completely done.

Schedule 2 Using The Schedule Function in WordPress For PostsTo finish scheduling a post, write all of your article. Once you are done with that portion, you are then ready to schedule your post. This might be the easiest of the steps as all you need to do is click on the word ‘Schedule’ that our purple arrow in the image to the right points to.

In closing, that is all you need to do to be able to schedule a post. Now you can go on vacation and appear to still be posting on a regular basis.

Increase your SEO with multiple blogs on one site

Did you know that you could increase your SEO with multiple blogs on one site? If your answer is “No”, then you are not alone. Many bloggers do not even think that is possible. Now, for the skeptics that think “Oh, not another blog that I have to maintain” it is not like that. Actually, it is very much the opposite.

For a loan officer that has multiple blogs, they can blog about FHA Loans, Conventional loans, or USDA loans all on the same account but have the post directed to 3 different blogs. For a Realtor, you could choose to blog about short sales and foreclosures on one blog, property listings on another, and pictures on another. For home inspectors, you could write about inspections on one blog while another was centered around mold and/or radon. I could sit here and go on and on with this, but I think that you get the picture. For those of you that don’t go to Lake Arrowhead ~ Above it All and check hers out. You will notice that she has a blog under blog, one under photos, and if you look on the left hand side, you will see a picture titled Short Sales and Foreclosures. On Monday, we will be launching her 4th one that will be a Market Report blog.

So, why would I want multiple blogs one might ask. Well, first off, it is all about the refined SEO that one can get. Secondly, it is the ability to tap into additional SEO outlets that most people ignore and just don’t even think about, such as Google Images. Ultimately, the benefits are vast and can make a huge difference in your site.

Now I am sure you are wondering what the catch is. Well, frankly, there is no catch in it for us. While we do charge a fee of $100 to create these additional blogs on your site, there is not recurring charges. In the case of PREP, if you were to add an additional blog, it would cost you a fee of $100 ONCE, and then you would never pay again for that service. The annual membership of $150 would be the only recurring charges. R & D Art is the same. If we build a site for you, you can have as many blogs as you want and they can be as specific as you want.

In closing, take advantage of getting additional SEO juice that these additional blogs can provide you. Whether you have a PREP account, or an R & D Art account, get with your webmaster and see if they can assist you with adding an additional blog to your site. If they can’t, then please consider joining PREP and see what we can do for your business.

Commenting Impacts Your Blogsite

conversation Commenting Impacts Your BlogsiteOver my years of blogging, one of the things that I see people fail the most at is commenting. Whether it is responding to comments on their own blogs or commenting on others’ blogs, they fail. It may seem like it is a painstaking task to do either, yet if people really knew how much it impacted their blogsite, I wonder if they would change their ways. Before we go much deeper in this subject, I have to admit that I was one of the “comment slackers” myself. I used to think that as long as I wrote posts on a daily basis, that was good enough. Well, I am here to tell you that commenting really does matter. So, without further delay, let’s dive in and see what the lack of commenting does to our blogs.

Why should I comment on your blog? You never take the time to acknowledge the comment.

This might be one of the single worst things that a blogger can do. Totally ignoring comments that are left on your site can kill a blog. First off, you typically will piss off the person that took the time to read your blog and then write a response to your article. Secondly, you are loosing out on the search engines that see these comments as being new content. That fact alone makes this a cardinal sin. Eventually the commenter will quit reading your articles because they see how much they DO NOT mean to you. In a nutshell, if you have someone that takes the time to comment on an article that you took the time to write, show them respect and appreciation by responding to their comment.

Why should I comment on your blog? You never comment on mine.

Reciprocal commenting is basically one of the golden rules of blogging. If you want to see your comments increase, then interact with the people that comment on your articles. Take the time to visit their site and read an article or two. Make a comment and create an interaction. You might actually be surprised what it can do for you. You really never know what commenter might be your next client or referral source. If you are not willing to open dialogue with them now, what is going to make them think that you will open dialogue with them when it comes to business?

What good does commenting do for my site?

Believe it or not, I had a potential client ask me this very question. The first thing that I have to stress is that commenting encourages interaction. When you run a blog that is directed and designed to help you generate leads and/or business, then interaction is key. If you do not have it, you can not gain clients. Commenting can have an impact to your SEO as well as to your site’s ranking. What? Commenting can affect my rankings? Believe it or not, the answer is yes. I have watched a website/blogsite lose their Alexa ranking over a three month period for the very fact that they quit commenting. Now, they have decided to start commenting again and all of a sudden, their rankings are back on the rise. Imagine that, the lack of commenting coinciding with a declining ranking. Who would have thunk it?

In closing, how can commenting help you and your blogsite? If that is still the question, then you might want to start reading this article again. Ultimately, you control your destiny when it comes to commenting. Engage your readers and the comments will come. Respond to their comments as well as visiting their blogs and they will stick with you. Ultimately, they will help drive your site’s rankings to another level and that is what will eventually help your SEO rankings.

Google Apps phasing out old browsers

Google Apps 300x150 Google Apps phasing out old browsersMany of the Google Apps users received an email yesterday explaining that Google Apps will be phasing out support for many outdated browsers. For most Internet users that are already using Internet Explorer 7.0 and above, Firefox 3.0 and above, Google Chrome 4.0 and above, and Safari 3.0 and above to access the Internet, this really has no implication for or to you and you can keep surfing and using Google Apps like you normally do. However, to those that have yet to upgrade their browsers from the dark ages for what ever the reason may be, this does affect you.

Starting this week, users on these older browsers will see a message in Google Docs and the Google Sites editor internet explorer logo Google Apps phasing out old browsersexplaining this change and asking them to upgrade their browser.  Google Apps will also alert you again closer to March 1 to remind you of this change. On March 1, 2010, they plan to begin phasing out support of these older browsers on the Google Docs suite and the Google Sites editor.  After that point, certain functionality within these applications may have higher latency and may not work correctly in these older browsers. Later in 2010, Google Apps will start to phase out support for these browsers for Google Mail and Google Calendar.

google chrome logo Google Apps phasing out old browserssafari logo Google Apps phasing out old browsersPeople that purchase new computers have no issues with this phase out. However, for those individuals and companies that are still in ancient times using Internet Explorer 6.0, it is time to emerge out of the dark ages. Personally, I recommend that you keep your browsers up-to-date by setting automatic updates to always install. In doing this, it will keep you on top of the game.

Deep Linking

multiple links Deep LinkingLinking is an important SEO tool for any website. If you do a Google search for ‘linking’ and you will find numerous blog posts on the subject. This is such an important topic that you can find numerous posts written by the admins right here on Positive Real Estate Professionals:

Using Comments to Build Links and Drive Traffic – Part 1

Using Comments to Build Links and Drive Traffic – Part 2

Relevant Links and What They Mean To You

Link Farming is just another form of Spam.

Today I want to look at Deep Links. What is a deep link? According to Wikipedia: Deep linking, on the World Wide Web, is making a hyperlink that points to a specific page or image on another website, instead of that website’s main or home page. While the links in your blogroll are great, they by definition are not deep links. Do you see the links to the articles immediately preceding this paragraph? They are examples of deep linking because they go to a particular location (the individual blog posts) and not the overall blog URL.

Deep linking is not confined to linking to blog posts alone, though this is one of the most common practices. A deep link can also link to a non-main page, a bio page, a form, or any other informational page. You can easily create these deep links either externally or internally. An external link connects to a webpage on another website. An internal link is one that links to information on the website where the post is actually written; i.e. linking to a previous relevant post or another minor page on the same website.

Deep linking, like using keywords, should be done in moderation. Deep linking is an effective, and the easiest, of  link building tools. Though deep linking is a good tool to use, it should not become a substitute for reciprocal and one-way linking with other websites.
